ACTION TAKEN AGAINST THREATS TO SAFETY
|
Phase One
- When an incident is reported,
administration and school security respond
immediately to secure the scene and keep
students and staff safe
- Witnesses and involved students
immediately become a part of the investigation
and are isolated from each other—for their
safety as well as the safety of others
- We notify parents of involved students as
quickly as possible
- We plan communication to staff, other
students, and parents and disseminate it as
quickly as possible. That early communication
is likely to be brief and without much
detail. It will also be absent conclusions or
decisions or anything that might jeopardize
the investigation or potential legal action.
- We remove from school all students who are a
threat to themselves or others. This may be
“emergency expulsion” or arrest, depending upon
the incident. This is done specifically to
reduce the possibility of escalated conflict or
danger.
Phase Two
- Administration and school security continue
their investigation, working with legal
authorities as necessary
- Discipline follows the investigation. Student
discipline specifics are private and protected
by law. That means I cannot reveal to anyone
what kind of disciplinary action is enacted
for any student of our school.
- If law enforcement takes action, that does
become public information through law
enforcement agencies.
Phase Three…
…must involve all of us because it is only by
working together that we can preserve Liberty
as a safe, nurturing school for students. You
can help by helping your teens understand
their right and responsibility to report when
they or someone they know is feeling
threatened by another’s actions.
