COLLEGE PLANNING RESOURCES

Pre-College Testing

Most baccalaureate colleges and universities require students to take the ACT or SAT Reasoning Test as a prerequisite for admissions.  Community colleges do not require such tests but give their own placement tests prior to registration for classes.  Students should check specific entrance requirements with College Admission offices to make sure they know which tests are required and to determine whether any SAT subject tests are needed.

Students may register online for college admissions tests at the ACT or College Board websites.  Both websites also offer free online practice tools, but there are many other test prep resources.  Students should visit their local library, neighborhood bookstore or the Career Center for test prep guides.  Many local school districts, including the Issaquah School District, offer classes through SATPrep.org.  Local private schools or tutoring agencies such as Sylvan, Huntington Learning Center, the Tutoring Club and a variety of national organizations (the Princeton Review, Kaplan and Petersons) also offer test prep assistance.

Helpful websites for registration and test prep:

SAT Reasoning Test and Subject Tests

Prep Courses:

One of the best preparations of the SAT is the Preliminary SAT National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMNQT).  The PSAT is a national test offered once a year in October.  Top scorers may qualify for national merit scholarship consideration.  Student sign-up is in the Liberty Counseling Office every fall.
