Hello Liberty Community!

I hope you are all able to enjoy the warm late-summer weather this weekend.   After two weeks, school is in full swing for both the staff and the students.  We hope the back-to-school transition has been smooth for your family.

Here are a few reminders and dates that will be of interest:

Fear Free SAT  -  Even if you have not signed up yet, you are welcome to come and take the Fear Free SAT tomorrow, Saturday September 12th at Liberty High School.   Sign-in for pre-registered students along with new registrations begin at 8:15 a.m.  The test fee is $25.00 payable to the Liberty PTSA.   The test will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will end at 1:00 p.m.  Please direct any questions to Debra Rogers, PTSA at 425-271-8668, herogers@comcast.net.

Student schedules:  We appreciate the cooperation we have received from students regarding our “no changes” policy as it relates to schedules this fall.  Counselors and administrators are reviewing the few exceptions that have been requested.  At this point, any new class change requests related to 1st semester must to be submitted via email to the appropriate administrator listed below no later than 2pm on Monday Sept 14th.

Students A-G, Dana Greenberg, greenbergd@issaquah.wednet.edu

Students H-N, Bernie Gibson, gibsonb@issaquah.wednet.edu

Students 0 – Z, Marsha Denton, dentonm@issaquah.wednet.edu

Student Organization:   All students were given a school planner during the first week of school.    It is our belief that school planners can be a critical element to your student’s academic success at Liberty.   Because of that belief, we require all freshmen to use the student planner throughout the school year and their teachers in core classes will do periodic planner checks.  For all other students, it is their decision as to whether or not they use the student planner we provide or some other system to stay organized with their school work.   Please take a few minutes to review your student’s planner and have a conversation at home about how organization can be a valuable tool in your student’s academic success.

Curriculum Night: Tuesday, September 29th beginning at 6:30. This is a great opportunity to meet the teachers and see what’s going on in your students classrooms.

Student Deliveries: If your student has forgotten a backpack, classroom project, lunch, or another necessary school-related item at home, please deliver it to the Attendance Office.   We will send notification to the student to pick up the item(s).   For other non-school related items such as birthday gifts, balloons, flowers, etc., please make delivery arrangements outside of school so as to minimize the disruptions to the classrooms.

Family Life and Sexual Health (FLASH) and HIV/AIDS Curriculum: If you are interested in previewing the curriculum we use with our sophomores in Health classes, you are encouraged to attend a presentation on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:30pm or Saturday, September 26th at 9:00am, at Issaquah Valley Elementary multi-purpose room.  Notice of the sessions will be posted in the September 9th and 16th editions of the Issaquah Press.

Washing our hands is important: This year we are especially encouraging students and parents to use good hygiene practices as the flu season approaches.  Please evaluate your student every morning and make sure they stay home if they exhibit any signs of influenza or other sicknesses. The PTSA is partnering with the school in asking parents to collect and donate liquid hand sanitizer that we can have available in classrooms.  We will have drop boxes on Curriculum Night for you to put donations in.  PLEASE help our students and our staff members stay healthy this year.
