Dear Liberty Families,
Our Patriot spirit is strong and evident in the recent athletic competitions and student activities at Liberty High School. We hope you’ve had a chance to witness some of the outstanding performances by our student-athletes over the past month or so. Just in case you missed any action, we are re-capping for you in our October Sports and Activities E-News.
October Athletic Update
Cross Country
Liberty had fine team performances from both the boys & girls varsity cross country teams at the District meet. The girls placed 7th overall, their highest District placing to date! Way to go girls! The Boys matched their 5th place finish of 2007, just short of clinching the last team spot for State. Four runners, representing both teams, set season best times on a muddy course.
Three individuals did qualify for State. Megan Chucka placing 15th, Josiah Sherwood placing 11th and Tyler Westenbroek placing 17th all have qualified for the State competition. Good job and good luck!
The coaches are very proud of the Liberty pride and spirit shown by our teams. Let’s celebrate their success and continue to cheer Megan, Josiah and Tyler on at State.
Football
The Varsity football team, with an overall 8-1 record, are currently ranked 2nd in the KingCo 3A/2A league standings and are headed to State! Liberty claimed victories during the month of October against Juanita, Hazen, Interlake and Mt. Si. The single loss of the season came in a great Homecoming game against Bellevue.
The first round of the state playoffs is this weekend with the team going up against Camas High School on Saturday, Nov. 7th. Kick-off is at 6:00 p.m. Let’s turn out and cheer the team on to victory!
Girls Soccer
The Patriots are currently ranked 3rd in the KingCo 3A/2A League standings, with a 4-7-4 overall record. The girls have had four shutouts in the last five games, showing great team defense and outstanding goalkeeping. Along the way they handed top-ranked Mercer Island a loss in overtime, defeating them 1-0. The goal was scored by Kailiana Johnson with an assist by Kimi Fry. Jennifer Rucker, goalkeeper, earned the shutout. Their recent 3-0 victory over Interlake clinched a play-off spot in the post-season. The girls take on Juanita in a loser-out game at Sammamish High School tonight at 5:00 p.m. Let’s go girls!
Boys Golf
Boys golf ended their season finishing 5th out of 6th in the League Tournament. Junior, Harrison Diemert, shot an 84 at the League Tournament to qualify him for the District Tournament.
Girls’ Swim & Dive
At the recent KingCo Championships Nicole LeCoq took 1st place in the 200 freestyle and placed 2nd in the 500 freestyle, breaking the school record in the 500 freestyle, which happened to have been held by her older sister. Liberty swimmers who qualified for state include Nicole LeCoq, Elise Tinseth, Caitlin Duffner, Hannah Blue, Sarah Lowes, Ashley Vigen, Katie Tsutakawa Hannah Bergam, and Katie Nelson. Good job Patriots!
Boys’ Tennis
It’s been an overall successful post-season for Boys’ Tennis. In singles play, Thomas Lowes defeated both Mercer Island and Bellevue opponents on 10/26, to qualify him for the District Tournament next May. The doubles team of Chris Weik and Ryan Maio are also doing very well in KingCo Tournament Play. The doubles team takes on Mercer Island and the winner advances to Districts.
Volleyball
Currently in 6th place in 3A/2A KingCo League standings, the volleyball team is heading into a “win and your in” match against West Seattle High School Thursday Nov 5th at Sammamish High School.

October Activities Update
ASB Leadership
The ASB just finished up an amazing Homecoming season which included two assemblies, four lunchtime activities, lively Buff Puff and Powder Puff evening games, a parade, a tailgate party, a fantastic halftime show at the homecoming game, and a beautiful Homecoming dance. Congratulations to the faculty Czar and Czarina, Andy Hall and Jessica Johnson, and our student royalty court, lead by senior King Henry Kohm and Queen Alexis Court.
Many clubs are up and running! A club calendar is posted in the commons and will be on the school website soon. Our active clubs include Be The Change, Campus Beautification, Chess, Choir, DECA, Drama, Future Educators of America, Honors Society, Improv, Invisible Children, J-Club (studying Japanese culture), Journalism, Key Club, and Yearbook. We strongly encourage all LHS students to find a club that interests you and join in the fun!
The highlighted Club of the Month for October is…LINK Crew. As adviser of LINK, Ms. Michelle Munson has led the charge to ensure that our freshmen feel welcome and well cared for. Ms. Munson writes, “LINK would like to thank all parents and students who attended our orientation on September 1. It is our hope that our newest Patriots are feeling more confident and secure in the hallways of Liberty. Please encourage your students to talk with their LINK leaders if they have any concerns or questions about the school year. LINK is sponsoring two events this semester. The first event is a dodge ball tournament on November 5. All freshman are invited to join us from 2:30-4:30 in the main gym, either to play or to watch their classmates battle for the title of LINK Dodge ball Champion. The second event is LINK's annual, and very popular, Cookies and Cram evening. This will be held January 14, in the library, from 2:30-4:30. LINK leaders will be available to work on review sheets, assignments, and help freshman prepare for finals week.”
Have a good week!
