Hello Liberty.....Happy New Year!
College Planning Night: Tuesday, January 15, @ 6:30 in the theatre. This is open to any freshman, sophomore, or junior parent or student. Learn about college planning from one of our counselors and our career specialist. This night will focus on college admissions, entrance exams, the application and selection process, and financial aid. After the formal presentation, we will have a parent panel talk about their prior experiences helping their students work through this process and answer your questions. If this is your only or oldest child and you need an education on college planning, or you simply need a refresher, this is an important night for you.
Clarification for College Planning Night: If you attended the College Planning Night last year, this information will be similar. Each year we make tweaks and changes. This year the major difference is that we will have a panel of parents and former Liberty students who will help answer questions and speak about their experiences. The presentation begins at 6:30 and the panel will begin at approximately 7:40pm. During the panel portion of the presentation we will also answer audience questions. The College Planning Night is January 15, 2008. Hope to see you there.
Graduation Requirements: Yep, things are changing on the state and district level. What does this mean for Liberty students? Join the Liberty PTSA and Boosters as they host a joint meeting on Monday, January 14, at 6:30 in the library. The presentation will be from 6:30 -7:15. LHS Asst. Principal Marsha Denton will make the presentation. Students and staff have each received a slightly different version of this and now it is time for the parents.
Registration for next year's classes: It is that time again. I know the 1st semester is not even over! The counselors will go into classes and present to grade levels on the following dates. We will have more specifics for you about registration over the next few weeks.
This year the course catalog will not be printed. You can access it online through the school's website. It will be available for viewing on Feb. 1, 2008. You are welcome to print it out at home or print the pages that you need. All the forms that your student will need will also be on the school's website. If you have limited access at home or work to a computer or printer, we have over 500 computers in the school and dozens of printers. Your student can print it out here and bring a paper copy home. I know this is a change for some people and you may not be thrilled with it. However, many high schools have made the switch to reduce paper and it saves us roughly $1000. Onward we go into the digital century!
SAT Prep: Does your student have the SAT in their future this Spring? This year we started a SAT Prep class at Liberty. The Winter/Spring class is forming. The registration deadline is Feb. 25, 2008. Please go to www.SatPrep.org to register or call 425-823-1370. You must also register for the SAT test. This can be done at www.collegeboard.com.
1st Semester Finals: The daily schedule changes the week of January 21st. Go to www.liberty.issaquah.wednet.edu and click on the finals schedule for details.
Calendar for 08-09: For those very forward-looking families, do not forget to check the 2008-09 school calendar before making vacation plans next year. Based on the community feedback priority of maximizing student learning time, second-winter break in 2009 has been shortened, and inclement-weather make-up days are prescheduled.
KZOK and the Liberty Band Contest. Many e-mails have been sent to get people to vote online. Here is the latest from the KZOK website.
THE SCHOOL OF THE ROCK Battle Of The Bands contest email voting has been suspended. Are we Smarter than a 10th grader? The answer is obviously no. We clearly goofed. We don't understand this Internet thing. There's only one right thing to do. Come up with a FAIR, LEVEL PLAYING FIELD way to choose the best High School Bands so we have fun, help music programs, and encourage young talent.
Mr. Donley tells us KZOK has decided to have only the band directors from the schools vote. We will let you know how it turns out for Liberty. Great job to the LHS Band! However it turns out, the Liberty Band still rocks!
