Hello Liberty……

WASL testing begins for all 10th grade students and any other student who is registered for reading and/or writing.
Testing takes place March 10 – 13th. Juniors and seniors that are not testing should not be on campus until 5 minutes before the first bell. If your junior or senior is not testing but they have no other way to get to school other than the yellow bus, please send them to school. We will make sure they are happy!
9th grade parents: Reminder, it is optional for freshman to be here during the WASL testing part of the day. We had them in classes last year during WASL testing and it did not work. This year we will have extended learning opportunities and seminars available for them to attend. Click on this link to view the schedule and descriptions of the freshman learning opportunities: http://www.liberty.issaquah.wednet.edu/9thGradeWASLWeekActivities.pdf.
If your freshman student has no other way to get to school other than the yellow bus, they will need to be involved in one of the extended learning opportunities.
All parents: Registration for classes is happening right now. You must sign the registration form before we accept it from your student. If you have not reviewed your student’s courses for next year with your student, please do so. All of the registration information and forms are available online on our website. Click on the counseling tab. At time it takes a village to get some adolescents to do follow through. So if you are prodding your child, know that we have started to “kindly prod” the current juniors, sophomores, and freshman who have not turned in their registration forms. Their forms are due now.
Great job LIBERTY BOOSTER CLUB supporters: The Liberty Booster Club held their Auction on Saturday night. The final tally is not in yet, but it was a fun time for all and I would definitely say a successful night financially. We want to acknowledge the many parents and supporters of Liberty who worked long hours to make the Auction a success. Special thanks go to the following: Debbie Whitman, Kristi Gage, Carol Fujioka, Cindy Ludwig, Gina Sjolander, Peggy Wiggum, Paula Kaser, Cheryl Ericksen, Kelli Komendat, Teresa Johnson, Cari Cordell, Lee Bruck, Lynn Kohn, Lori Beltz, Shannon Small, Jenny Crevling, Linda Iwakami, Tim Leahy, the Booster Club Executive Board – Lisa Stix, Sue Schoot, Stacey Byron, each club team parent who provided items for the silent and live auctions, and, of course, the parents and supporters present who put forward the cash to show their support for the Booster Club and Liberty High School. Thank you!
We kicked off our fundraising for Liberty’s weight room. In a previous e-news I announced that we hoped to raise $40,000 for phase one. Here is a quick recap of our goals:
Our goal is to turn the Liberty Weight room into a fitness room. We want to teach each female and male student about the importance of life-long fitness and give them the tools to establish healthy habits. The new fitness room benefits all students in the weight lifting and personal training classes. In addition to athletes in season who use the weight room, we have multiple male and female athletes that turn out for the after school “speed city training”. They also use the weight room in the off-season for part of their training. We have over 700 students each year who use this room on a regular basis at some point during the year.
The fundraising kick-off was part of the Booster Club’s live auction. We raised over $10,000 for the new fitness room within 5 minutes! The contributions were flying! This is a great start. We estimated that over 200 people were in attendance. If you were unable to attend or didn’t know about this year’s fund-a need, we are still accepting donations. Any contribution will help as we work towards our goal for phase one. Contributions can be for as little as $10 to as much as you would like to donate. A donor board will be permanently placed in the new fitness room acknowledging the various donors and their contribution levels.
To reach our goals we need your individual support and the support of formal groups associated with Liberty High School. Contributions can be sent directly to Liberty High School/16655 SE 136th St., Renton, WA. 98059/Attn: bookkeeper. Please specify that the funds are for the new fitness room. For those of you who work with companies that provide matching funds, this is a great way to double your support for LHS. We hope to have the new equipment installed over the summer.
If you are wondering why we chose the weight room and not some other project? We felt that we needed to start somewhere, and this was a good place to start. Every one-two years we will pick an area of the school that needs improvement. The criteria will be that it has to benefit a significant portion of the Liberty student body. Our goal is to make Liberty the best place for current students and for future students as well.
