Liberty ENews: September 20, 2007

Liberty Parents: SAT prep classes are being offered at Liberty. During Patriot days the PTSA handed out flyers. Classes begin next week. To learn more and register for the fall class click on www.liberty.issaquah.wednet.edu. Under recent news, click on SAT prep classes.  Deadline for registration is Friday, Sept 21, 2007.

PSAT test registration: Juniors and Seniors who have not passed the Math portion of the WASL have the option of using the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) math score as a substitute to meet the Math WASL graduation requirement.  Students in this situation, who are interested in taking the PSAT for this purpose, must sign up with Mrs. Barclay in the counseling office BEFORE September 26, 2007.  There is no charge for students taking the PSAT for this purpose. All other students who are interested in taking the PSAT will follow standard procedures as listed on the Liberty High School website at www.liberty.issaquah.wednet.edu.  Click on the PSAT link for further information.  The deadline for these students is October 17th, or until all spots are taken.  We are currently taking registrations for juniors.  Freshman and sophomores can register starting October 1st. Questions?  Call Mrs. Barclay at 425-837-4833.

Counselor Assignments: Due to enrollment changes and caseload size, the counselors and administrators have revised which students they serve. If you recall, all students are divided up between a counselor and an administrator team by their last name. If your students last name begins with:

A-G   Counselor - Kay Hutchinson & Administrator - Andrea Hillman
H-N   Counselor - Dorothy Hay  & Administrator - Bernie Gibson
0-Z    Counselor - Lynn Davidson & Administrator - Marsha Denton

The changes listed above do not affect seniors. Due to graduation issues, seniors will stay with their counselor that they have been working with.

WASL NEWS Junior and Senior Parents whose child has not met standard: As you know, this senior class, (Class of 2008) is the first class that needs to pass the WASL. Information about graduation requirements and WASL is very fluid and changing from the State as seniors across the state approach graduation. We will create a place on our website for WASL and graduation requirement information. Below is one update for you to consider:

If your junior or senior student has not passed the WASL, the following scores can be substituted and used in lieu of the WASL score for graduation:

Writing:

If your student has an IEP, please discuss this with your student's case manager. Some special education students will be working towards a Certificate of Individual Achievement (CIA).

FYI: Some people may think that the Math WASL does not matter....well it still does

More to follow about graduation requirements and WASL at a later date.
