Liberty ENews: October 25, 2007

All Liberty parents: Writing and math labs are up and running. If you checked Family Access or communicated with your student's teacher and found out your student needs a little help or a lot of help with a math concept or writing a paper, the library is the place. Students who need help with college essay's can also get feedback on their essays. Click on www.liberty.issaquah.wednet.edu for a complete schedule. Math labs and Writing labs are open from 2:30-3:30. If transportation home is an issue, your student is welcome to stay in the building until you can come and pick them up. Currently, we do not have an after school activity bus.

Liberty Parents and students: I am letting you know we will be beginning parking lot searches by one of the King County Sheriff's drug dogs. This will occur periodically from now until the end of the school year. The purpose is to help students make healthy choices and remind them of the importance of having good boundaries. We believe if a student is using drugs and alcohol and brings them to the school campus, then they need help. Furthermore, as responsible adults who care about kids, we feel we need to intervene on these issues in a direct manner.

In the parking lot permission forms the following language is included:

The parking lots will be subject to periodic patrols by drug sniffing dogs at

times when the students are not in the vicinity of the dogs. If a drug sniffing

dog "hits" on an automobile while it is parked on the school premises, the

district has the authority to search the car or cars that are the subject of the

"hits". If the search is refused, students will lose their parking privileges and

the district will presume that the dogs have accurately discovered contraband

in determining whether student disciplinary action is warranted.

Each student who legally parks on campus has completed a Parking and Vehicle registration form. If you have any questions or concerns about our actions. please feel free to e-mail me at deletism@issaquah.wednet.edu

Liberty Community: This Saturday. October 27th from 10 am until 2 pm, the Liberty Booster Club will hold its first area rug sale. Theses are high end (Karastan etc.) area rugs, mostly 4'x6' and 6'x9'. The proceeds will benefit the Booster Club General Fund. The sale will be inside the main entrance to the school. Please check out these high quality rugs at about 50% off of the retail price.

Liberty Parents: The ASVAB test will be administered on Thursday, November 1st from 7:30 - 11:00 in the Career Center.  ASVAB stands for Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery and is an excellent test for any sophomore, junior or senior that is unsure of their future career.  Test results will not be released to recruiting military services and no recruiter will contact students after test results are finished.  Any student that is interested in the military should take this test as it is required for entrance to any branch of the Armed Forces. The ASVAB is the only test that combines a student's aptitude scores and career interests. Students can sign up to take this free test in the counseling office from October 17th - 29th. The test consists of 8 short individual tests including verbal, math, word knowledge, science, auto shop, electronics, numerical operations and reading comprehension.  The students who take the test will attend an interpretation session on November 27th to analyze their test results and career options.

If you are interested in your student taking this test see a more detailed description of the test on the LHS website.  If you have any questions, please contact Kay Hutchinson, LHS Counselor hutchinsonk@issaquah.wednet.edu.
