Liberty’s Site Council is a 20-member team (composed of parents, teachers,
students, classified staff, counselors, and administrators) that takes on
responsibilities to develop and monitor the major directions affecting Liberty
High School. Decisions and discussions (whether it be on school climate, budgets
for resources, curriculum, or student learning) are prefaced with the question,
"Is it good for kids?" Liberty’s Site Council is more than just a representative
body; it is a cohesive, close-knit group that cares about all of its members and
Liberty’s community.
Here are some of the issues and accomplishments that Site Council has
experienced over the years.
- Civility Policy: implemented and included in the student handbook.
- Grading Policy: to help students/parents follow progress, mid-quarter
progress reports will be given to all students (not just deficient students)
with an assignment list. Computer (Basmati) access to grades is available for
teachers to utilize for this process.
- Teacher Evaluation (by students): teachers support the value of having
student opinions.
- Computer Assisted Tennis-Shoe Registration: student control of courses
and teachers was respected, and process only assisted with a computer.
- Continuous Improvement Plan: ongoing evaluation and support of school
goals.
- Reading Classes: remedial reading classes added to Liberty’s course
offerings to assist those in need.
- District Model Site Council: we are recognized as an effective,
cooperative and respectful group.
- Surveys: we conduct surveys of students/staff/parents/alumni/retired
teachers…to monitor Liberty’s strengths and weakness’ for continued
improvement.
- Blue Ribbon School: national recognition of excellence. Site Council
worked to put together the successful application.
- High School Plus Program: directed the creation of the program that
greatly expanded the Advance Placement class offerings.
- Curriculum Team: designed to meet the needs associated with
Washington State Standards, WASL testing…. and further direction and
assistance with curriculum and training.
- King Co League: coordinated efforts in moving from the Seamount
League
- A- change to 3.7: was given as a 4.0
- Valedictorian Criteria: grade point to include scores up to May.
- Attendance Appeals Committee: to help with new attendance policy.
- Peer Tutoring Programs: supported
- Maywood Site Council Liaison: established and continued for
communication and continuity of programs.
