Spanish 2 Homework

Welcome to a new school year.  Today in Spanish 2 we got several handouts:

 

--an information card (we turned that back in)

--a salmon-colored syllabus

--a signature sheet to sign and have your parent/s sign and turn in next class

--a participation paper

--a "Recipe for an A" study guideline sheet

Homework for next class:

  1. a 1" binder with 5 tabs (tabs should be labeled: Course Info / Vocab / Notes / Homework & Handouts / Culture)  ONE FREE BAÑO PASS IF YOU COME TO CLASS ON TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY WITH THESE LABELED!

Collected signature sheets

Reviewed concepts from Spanish 1 including: weather, seasons, Spanish-speaking countries, colors, pastimes, talking about yourself, adjectives, months, food, sports, family, friends, school, etc.  Key questions: ¿Cómo te llamas? // ¿Cuántos años tienes? // ¿Cuál es tu clase favorita? ¿Por qué? //  ¿Cuál es tu deporte favorito? ¿Por qué?

Homework for next class:

  1. the only 2 late hw assignments I take all year are your signature sheet and your binder w/ tabs--if you didn't have them for today, you need to have them for next class

  2. ¿Quién Soy? project

    Here are the parameters of the project:

    --You are going to use your project to talk about yourself/your personality/your interests

    --Your project needs to have 10 questions about yourself visible when you're looking at it, and the 10 answers to those questions need to be "hidden" somehow (an easy description is to write a question on an index card, affix it to your project, and write the answer to that question behind the index card)

    --All questions and answers must be in Spanish.  For each English word found on your project, you will have 10 points deducted from your score.  There's a glossary in the back of your book that can help you with that!

    --The book's Spanish One review chapter at the beginning of your book goes topic by topic (pages 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15).  No more than 2 questions can come from each of those sets of pages.

    --If I were doing a project like this, here are some example questions and answers I might give . . . feel free to edit them and use them in your projects!

In class we received workbooks (pay NOW if you don't have yours--HW is assigned from them next class!), turned in projects, reviewed present and preterite regular endings, did text p. 525, 2nd ex #1 and p. 527, ex #4 to practice the endings.  There will be  quiz on the endings next class.

Today we took the endings quiz, reviewed gustar, possessive adjectives, ser, and got the 1st set of vocab from Capítulo 1 (pp. 30-31).  No dancing today.  Get the words for your labels above!

18 septiembre

Today we corrected and turned in WB pages, learned two songs (the birthday song and the 'pared' song), practiced vocab memorization using physical actions to help us remember (pp. 30-31), had '5 minutos de conversación en español', did some other conversation activities, and got new vocab (pp. 34-35).

20 septiembre

Today we added more actions to our vocab repertoire, studying pp. 30-31 and 34-35 for the quiz later today in class.  We got our paper vocab list, worked on how to use it as a study tool (and not make it a 'busy-work' thing), and studied for the quiz.  Then, we took the quiz!  After the quiz we organized our binders and took our first set of notes.  See them here.  Make sure you get them copied for next class.

Homework:

  1. There is no homework, unless

  2. You still need tabs in your binder, or

  3. You need to purchase a workbook

  4. Have a great weekend

22 septiembre

Today we reviewed vocab some more, reviewed our salir notes, and took notes on tan . . . como.  See them here.  We then did speaking exercises on pp. 43-44 of our text.  Finally, you were assigned the task in groups of preparing a presentation for the school board in which you talk about the most important class, a class that's just as important as others, and the least important class at school.  The school board needs to do some budget cuts.

  1. WB 1-5, 1-6 (I will post answers for #1 of each of these by 7 a.m., Monday, Sept. 24)

16/17 octubre

In class today turned in the narratives of what we do on a daily basis.  Last class we took notes on Reflexive Verbs (here) and we worked on our reflexive verb conjugation practice sheet.  We took a quiz on the first part of our vocab list.  You got a handout w/ practice for conjugating reflexive verbs.

18/19 octubre 

Today we took the 2nd part of the quiz on the first list in Chapter 2 and we added some more actions to our vocab repertoire.  For the quiz you need to review some of the breakfast vocabulary you learned last year.  We also took notes on antes de and después de as well as on stem changers (review).

Homework:

1.  WB 2-6, 2-7, and 2-10 (very tricky!  Be careful!)

2.  The chapter 2 test will be at the end of next week or the beginning of the last week in October.

22/23 octubre

Today we worked with the new vocabulary from Chapter 2.  You also received an o-->ue "entrevista" handout to practice questions with o-->ue verbs in them.  In class we answered 1-12; HW is to answer 13-24.

24/25 octubre

Ms. Hillman was gone Wednesday 10/24.  Both classes (24th and 25th)went through HW (2-3 and 2-4) and corrected it. Next, have we practiced the new vocab and finally we went to text p. 69 and answered questions 11-14 to turn in before the end of class.

26/29 octubre

Today we did the practice audio activities for the chapter.  We reviewed the vocabulary and then took Prueba 2-4 (the vocab quiz).  After that, we worked on correcting the WB pages.  P6: At this point, we did the conversation carrousel activity to practice the o-->ue questions.  P1:  At this point, we got the "La buena suerte" story and worked through half of it, creating a parallel story about Cole and Melissa.

Homework:

1.  P1--finish writing the parallel story about Cole and Melissa

30/31 octubre

Review for Chapter 2 Test

1/2 noviembre

In class, we took the exam with the speaking section.

Homework:

1.  Print out this vocab list for Chapter 3

2.  Find an article on El día de los muertos (Day of the Dead) in English that is one page in length (or less!).  Write 4 questions in English about the text.

5/6 noviembre

Today in class we studied what El día de los muertos is--we used every student's article to synthesize a good picture about the meaning behind the holiday.  We also used our new vocabulary lists to talk about clothing.

Homework:

1.  WB 3-1, 3-2 (w/ translations for extra credit)

2.  3 pictures of people wearing school-appropriate clothing cut out of magazines or fliers and pasted to a piece of paper (extra hw for 6th period--write a sentence with many details regarding what each person is wearing)

7/8 noviembre

Today we reviewed vocabulary in a warmup and on the overhead, then we used our pictures to do a speaking exercise as a large group, then individually.  We also took notes on the preterite.  Find them here.

Homework:

21/26 noviembre

In class, we did 3-3, 3-4 as a warmup for the vocab quiz, which we then took.  Next we finished the Demonstrative and tanto/como notes, and did WB 3-8, 3-9, and 3-10 for HW. We also did text p. 536 in class.

Homework:

1.  Test on Chapter 3 Thursday (for 1st period) and Friday (for 6th period)

2.  (for 6th period only) Use work you did on text p. 536 in class--now translate both exercises on that page into English.

27/28 noviembre

Today we reviewed for the chapter 3 test.  We did the listening activities and a practice writing prompt.  We reviewed vocab with a powerpoint.  We also read a story with a ton of the chapter vocab in it.

Homework:

1.  Finish reading + draw comic of story

2.  Study for test LOTS!!!

29/30 noviembre Today we took the test in class.  There is no homework for next class.
3/4 diciembre Today in class we received, filled out, and studied the new vocab list for Chapter 4.  We played BONK! with the vocabulary.  We also learned the Palo song.

5/6 diciembre

Today we continued studying the vocabulary by doing some translations, reviewing the flashcards, and then had the quiz.  We also did some activities out of the book as a competition. (P6: we also took notes on ser in the preterite and saber/conocer.

7/10 diciembre

In class today we did some translations with our new grammar concepts (P1 took the saber/conocer notes today).  We also took the vocab quiz (there were 4 English --> Spanish and 4 Spanish --> English).
