Liberty Drill/ Pom Team members face a challenging responsibility. We are responsible for half-time entertainment at football games, and we participate in parades and assemblies. We may perform at other places (Sounders and Sonics games, etc.) if the team seems motivated and has a willingness to practice for such performances. We will be entering competitions. Of course the big event is the Washington State Conference that is usually held in March. Our main function is to represent Liberty High School in a positive manner and to demonstrate outstanding school pride and good sportsmanship.

We hope that the following pages will help you understand the policies, expectations, and obligations of being a Drill / Pom Team member at Liberty. It is very IMPORTANT that you know what is expected of you when you accept this responsibility .We are particularly stressing that members have a sense of SCHOOL PRIDE AND DEMONSTRATE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP and that this experience becomes a positive one.

Being on Drill / Pom Team is HARD WORK, and the responsibility is great; however the rewards, experiences and close friendships can be well worthwhile.

Good Luck. We look forward to a SUPERIOR year with the Liberty High School Drill / Pom Team.

Sincerely,
Andrea Dalry and Maureen Huff

Liberty Drill / Pom Team Coaches

LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL DRILL / POM TEAM PHILOSOPHY

The Liberty High School Drill / Pom Team is a first class organization. It is run with the highest expectations of its members and Coaches. It is our intention to perform to the best of our ability, and to aim for the perfect performance at every pep assembly, game and competition. We will work to increase poise, coordination, flexibility, confidence, loyalty, pride, responsibility, intelligence and good sportsmanship.

As a member of the Drill / Pom Team, you are now an important part of a winning tradition. This team belongs to you, and its success will be the result of your hard work and dedication.

1.      We are goal-oriented. Team and personal goals are set at the beginning of each school year and are continuously evaluated; Past goals have included team unity, team pride and a more comprehensive knowledge of the routines.

2.      We expect commitment.  First to the team as a whole, second to yourself. This commitment is to work towards team and personal goals. Every team member must attend all team practices, performances, competitions, and clinics- regardless of whether she is performing. When a member misses a practice she inconveniences the rest of the team, therefore, it is her responsibility to make lost time by meeting with a team member PRIOR to the next practice.

3.      In order for practices and performances to be as effective as possible, it is imperative that personal differences not be brought to Drill / Pom Team and that they are constructively resolved in a timely manner. Every decision you make will have a direct impact on your teammates. This is a tremendous responsibility by itself, but in order for us to be successful, the TEAM MUST COME FIRST.

4.      Academics are high priority. All of our performers are student athletes. This means they are students FIRST and athletes SECOND. If at any time a team member's grades are in danger, she w ill be put on academic probation until her grades improve.

5.      Always conduct yourself with pride as your actions at all times reflect on the rest of the team. Remember that you are a part of a FIRST CLASS TEAM, and behave accordingly.

6.      Appearance is important. Personal cleanliness is of the utmost importance. This means a clean body, clean hair, clothing and uniform. Each member should take pride in her appearance in order to promote a positive Drill / Pom Team image.

These are the traits we saw in you that we expect from all our members.

RELIABLE:

We need to know you'll be there for us through thick and thin. We need to know that you'll know your stuff and we can count on you. Your word must be reliable too. You must be present all the time; we can't function if all members don't show up!

TRUSTWORTHY:

What goes on among our team should stay within the group. The team puts trust in you not to betray confidence. That includes everything from resolving personality problems to keeping confidential any "team secrets" that help us achieve our goals and be competitive.

PUNCTUAL:

A superior effort is worth nothing if it can't be used. One person's lateness can force the whole team to be ineffective.

TEAM-SPIRITED:

Team spirit is essential for SUCCESS. Things like enthusiasm, a positive outlook, always doing things for the good of the team rather than you personally, pride in our group all are ingredients to building our success. Good morale and poor morale are equally contagious. Counter complainers with an upbeat outlook. There is always something worthwhile to CHEER about.

GENEROSITY:

Generosity may not be a quality that first comes to mind when thinking about team-work, but it should. Members of a good, strong team are generous toward each other.  They help out whenever and wherever they are needed. They also don't keep track of every minute of help they are owed in return. Remember your success is dependant on the success of your teammates

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Make sure you take the time to improve your skills and weaknesses so that you are carrying your weight on the team.  If you are weak in any area make sure you spend the time working on those skills so you are confident in your abilities.

We know you can do it; You are a member of this incredible team of exceptional girls.
