Dear parents,

Having five children of my own, I know that your child's education is very important to you.  My approach is to break the topics into small pieces.  This enables the student to experience small victories which add up to a successful year.

Mathematics is difficult for most people. Click on this hyperlink to read an excellent essay on ways you can really help your student study mathematics. Most students require extra help outside of class. These are the ways extra help is available:

bullet1) I'm available for help both lunches and my prep periods 4 and 6.
bullet2) If your student is in Geometry, solutions and explanations are available online at http://www.hotmath.com     We encourage students to help themselves learn utilizing this free website.
bullet3) A volunteer tutor can be assigned most periods.
bullet4)  A parent guide written by the textbook publisher (CPM) is available for downloading at the following website:

    http://www.cpm.org/parent_guides/index.html

bullet5)  A private tutor may be a good solution (although expensive).
bullet6)  We use an excellent on-line tutorial program called "Aleks".  You can subscribe to it for a nominal monthly fee.  You can take a tour at

In addition, I feel it is very important for the student to find a "Study Buddy", someone who also has the class.  Studying together is probably the best (and most fun) way to do homework.

I hope your child enjoys my class.  If you have any concerns or ideas,
