GENERAL PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXPECTATIONS

FALL 2005

Taught by:  Mr. Darren Tremblay, Mrs. Michelle Munson, and Mr. Brian Hartman

Welcome to the start of another exciting year.  We look forward to having you in our class and observing your efforts as you work toward your physical goals in our classes.

Before we go any further, there are some points of emphasis to go over:

Safety

Our number one priority is SAFETY! Wt.Training, Physical Education, and Fitness and Conditioning are enjoyable activities when they are safe to participate in. We can ensure a safe environment when all participants are abiding by the rules and expectations of the department and that of his/her teacher. Unsafe behavior or conduct will not be tolerated.

Horseplay

Horseplay will not be tolerated.  That goes for the weight-room, gymnasium, fields, locker-room, and the hallways.  Your class will be challenging and fun without it.  You will be expected to act like the young adults you are.  We respect every one of you and will treat you with respect.  All we ask is for the same in return.  And because you are all young adults to us, we will trust that you all know what horseplay is, in all its forms.

Punctuality

All classes are participation-oriented.  If you are tardy, you are not participating fully, and your grade will reflect that.

 Make up Work

Making up excused absences, injuries, or other school related, excused absences will be done after school by participating in our Pacer exercise.  Students are to make arrangements to stay after school for a half hour to make up these days.  Make up days will be posted in the locker room, weight room and in the halls outside the gyms, and on our website.  If students are late for make up, they will not receive credit for their make up.  Students must sign in and perform satisfactorily in order to receive the make up credit.

ALL MAKE UP WORK MUST BE COMPLETED WITH IN TWO WEEKS OF RETURNING FROM THE EXCUSED DAY.

ONLY EXCUSED ABSENCES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR MAKE UP.  ALL OTHER POINTS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR MAKE UP!

Food

Food, drinks, and gum are not allowed in the classroom (gymnasium, weight-room, fields, locker-room).

Dress

Comfortable sweats, shorts, T-shirts, etc. are appropriate dress for physical education classes.  The clothing must be comfortable for the activities we will be performing and allow for full range of motion (not binding, or too loose, etc.).   Court shoes, basketball shoes, tennis-runners, are all acceptable.  Combat boots, high heels, clogs, flip-flops, cowboy boots, dress shoes, etc., are NOT acceptable.  A basket will be assigned to each of you to keep your PE clothes in.  If you come to class in inappropriate gym clothes (boots, street clothes, offensive clothing) you will receive a non-suit.  You will not be allowed to wear inappropriate clothing: clothing with offensive remarks, gestures, promoting drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or any pictorials displaying such will not be allowed.   If you are not sure if your attire falls under this category, don’t wear it... testing us is not worth it.  Take the safe approach and wear appropriate clothing. Please refer to our school dress code.

Please wear the clothing properly.  Sagging, etc. is offensive to some, INCLUDING US, and will result in a non-suit.

·         NO TANK TOPS WILL BE ALLOWED

·         ALL SHORTS AND PANTS MUST COME UP OVER THE HIPS, AND SHORTS MUST ALSO COME DOWN TO MID THIGH (THERE HAVE BEEN TOO MANY SKIMPY SHORTS and SAGGING THAT HAVE PUSHED US TO ADD THESE SPECIFIC DETAILS.

 Swearing

 Profanity will not be tolerated.

Hats

No hats will be allowed in PE

Lockers

Locker baskets are assigned, but LOCKS are NOT.  You are responsible for bringing your own lock.  You may purchase a lock at school for $5.00 and it will be yours. Just pay our ASB bookkeeper and bring the receipt to us. Make sure your locks are kept on the appropriate baskets.  LOCKS LEFT ON LOCKERS, INSTEAD OF BASKETS, ARE SUBJECT TO BEING CUT OFF WITHOUT NOTICE.  Athletic lockers are assigned to athletes for each individual sports season only.  IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR BASKET, IF IT WILL NOT STAY LOCKED, NOTIFY US IMMEDIATELY.

THE SCHOOL TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS.   WE WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO KEEP THE LOCKER-ROOM SECURED WHILE YOU ARE IN CLASS.  UNFORTUNATELY THE LOCKER-ROOM IS NOT LOCKED 100% OF THE TIME.  YOU MUST LOCK UP YOUR BELONGINGS, OR TAKE THE RISK.

If you or your parents have any questions, please let us know.

Thank you,

The PE Department
