PHYSICAL EDUCATION PORTFOLIO
DEVELOPING A PERSONAL PORTFOLIO
Student portfolios are used as an assessment tool for teachers and students. Students become engaged in self-reflection and are motivated to learn when developing a personal portfolio. In physical education class, students will be asked to keep track of progress, asses personal accomplishments, communicate strengths and weaknesses, and ultimately learn the skills necessary to practice healthy lifestyles.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Students are asked to keep a Three Ring Notebook, filled with notebook paper in their assigned PE baskets. Students may want to use dividers to help organize their folders. These notebooks won't need to go home unless a student does not complete daily assignments.
PORTFOLIO WORK:
Portfolios will be developed through a variety of lessons. Students will be asked to bring portfolios to class every Wednesday along with a pen or a pencil. Students who miss a Wednesday class are encouraged to get the journal questions from a fellow student and/or approach the teacher about important paperwork that he/she missed.
ASSESSING PORTFOLIO WORK:
85% of a student's grade will be based on participation, attendance, effort, suiting up etc. The other 15% will be categorized as written work. The portfolios will account for a large portion of this 15%. Skill tests, written tests, fitness tests (based on improvement) may also account for a portion of this 15%. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT STUDENTS KEEP CAUGHT UP ON THE PORTFOLIO AND KEEP THEIR BINDER ORGANIZED.
