LIBERTY FOOTBALL
ACCOUNTABILITY GROUPS
Accountability and Responsibility are THE two qualities that will most impact the success of
the 2006 Liberty Football team. This year we cannot ignore the individual
responsibility each team member has in determining our team’s success.
It is of supreme importance that all players, from every grade level, accept
and welcome the challenge of taking responsibility for our success. And, that
challenge starts immediately, and it begins and ends with YOU.
- We
have divided our team into 3 “accountability groups.”
- The
groups are by grade level: sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
- The
idea behind this is to increase each player’s sense of responsibility
and accountability to his teammates in two areas: commitment to
getting better physically and commitment to performing well in the
classroom.
- The
group with the highest average per player will be rewarded with a steak
dinner, served by the coaching staff at Coach Valach’s
house at the end of the summer.
- The
top fifteen individuals from each grade level will comprise a group. There
will be more than 15 players from each grade level, but we will only count
points for the top 15.
- Individuals,
regardless of their group’s overall score, who earn over 165 points earn a
t-shirt.
- We
will provide updates throughout the year for both groups and individuals.
- A
player earns points in the following areas:
- The number of workouts attended between December and August
15. Players are given credit for 25 workouts if involved in a school
sport, and 18 workouts if involved in a club sport. Our weight room is
open 5 days/week. Players who come to the weight room must complete the
workout, which takes one hour.
- Most recent grade point average multiplied by 20. This will
be second semester final grades.
- The lifting level they have earned in the weight room.
(Patriot = 5, Varsity = 10, All-League = 20, All-State = 30, All-American
= 40).
So, here is how it would work (for
a team of three people, even though our groups will consist of 15 people):
- Deon
Prummer, a Liberty
sophomore, has 75 workouts, a 3.2 GPA and is an All-League lifter.
75 + (3.2 x 20) + 20 = 159 points
(# work outs) (GPA times 20) (All-League lifter)
- Corey
Hanna, a Liberty sophomore,
has 98 workouts, a 3.6 GPA and is an All-American lifter:
98 + (3.6 x 20) + 10 = 180 points (Earns t-shirt for score
+165)
(# work outs) (GPA times 20) (Varsity lifter)
- Texas
Davis, a Liberty sophomore,
has 12 workouts, a 2.0 GPA, and is a Patriot lifter:
12 + (2.0 x 20) + 5 = 57 points
(# work outs) (GPA times 20) (Patriot lifter)
Total score of all three team members: 159 + 180 + 57 = 396 points
Divide the total score by the number of team members: 396 ÷ 3
Overall Team average for this sophomore group = 132
