                                   ANNOUNCEMENTS

7-25-08 - The Bellevue Arts Fair Lemonade fund-raiser was another great success, raising over $1500 for the Track program.  Thanks again to Dave Johnson & GE for the opportunity.

Track Banquet Honors Liberty Athletes.  Athletes who competed at the state meet took home top honors this year.  Most Valuable Female - Rebecca Teel, Most Valuable Male - Chris Freeman, Most Improved Female - Michelle Vanderheyden, Most Improved Male - Kyle Dennison, Most Inspirational Female - Jordan Hanson, Most Inspirational Male - Alex Leonard.  A special award was given to Ian Smith who is the 1st Liberty Male to participate at State all 4 years as a Patriot.  Congratulations to all athletes for a great year and big thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped this be an outstanding season.  Special thanks to Brad Egerstrom for all the photos contributed for the last 3 years.

5-23 & 5-24-08 - STATE - Ian Smith finished 2nd in the 800 in a School Record 1:55.90 and  Kyle Dennison was 3rd in the Discus with a School Record 157' 1" at the final State Meet to be held in Pasco.  Kyle was 13th in the Javelin, Chris Freeman placed 15th in the Long Jump, Michelle Vanderheyden was 16th in the Pole Vault and Rebecca Teel was 19th in the Javelin.

5-14 & 5-16-08 - DISTRICT - Kyle Dennison had an outstanding meet, placing 1st in the Discus with another school record 156' 7" toss in Friday's final after placing 3rd in the Javelin with a new personal best 174' 7" on Weds.  Overall, Liberty qualified 5 athletes for State in Pasco: Chris Freeman - 3rd in the Long Jump, Ian Smith - 3rd in the 800, Michelle Vanderheyden - 4th in the Pole Vault & Rebecca Teel - 4th in the Javelin.  Both 1600 relay teams clocked their fastest times of the year but missed advancing by .6 sec for the Boys and 1.6 sec. for the girls.  Alex Leonard was 8th in the 200 after a personal best in the prelims.  The boys 400 relay team missed a handoff and did not advance to the finals.

5-7 & 5-9-08 - KINGCO - Kyle Dennison had a big day Friday, breaking the school record again in the Discus, throwing 151' 5" for 2nd and setting a personal best in the Javelin with a 173' 1" throw.  Rebecca Teel had a best in the Jav as well, throwing 118' for 3rd.  Chris Freeman (4th) & Alex Leonard (2nd) both did well in the 200 and were on the 400 relay team that broke the school record set last year with a 44:19 time.  Alex was also 3rd in the 100 earlier (setting personal bests in the 100, 200 & LJ), Chris was 5th in the Triple Jump & 2nd in the Long Jump.  Michelle Vanderheyden broke her school record in the Pole Vault, jumping 9' for 2nd on Weds.  Ian Smith lost a close race in the 800 but he and Mitchell Byron ran down the competition after the baton was dropped to move on in the 1600 relay.  Jordan Hanson had a best in the 800 placing 5th and then bringing home an outstanding 2nd place finish in the 1600 relay.  In all, Liberty will be sending the following 15 athletes to Districts:

 Alex Leonard – 100, 200 & 400 relay;  Chris Freeman – 200, Long Jump, Triple Jump, 400 relay; Sean Fotheringill  & Jay Chakravarty – 400 relay;  Jordan Hanson – 800, 1600 relay;  Alli Agnew, Anna Skutley & Maddie Birdsall – 1600 relay;  Rebecca Teel – Javelin;  Kyle Dennison – Javelin, Discus;  Mitchell Byron – 400, 1600 relay;  Ian Smith – 800, 1600 relay;  Reid Christensen, Troy Solly – 1600 relay;  Michelle Vanderheyden – Pole Vault.     Click for the District Meet Sched.

Other athletes who had bests at Kingco were;  Chris Cao  & Daniel Craig – Triple Jump,  Nick Kenney – High Jump, Troy Solly – 300H,  Corrina VanHurston – Shot,  Anna Skutley & Alli Agnew – 300H,  Emily Flanik – TJ,  Maddie Birdsall – 800.

5-6-08 - Josiah Sherwood captured the 3200 at the JV meet, while placing 3rd with a personal best in the 1600.

5-1-08 - Boys finish the season Undefeated by the slimmest of margins.  With 72 points, Liberty narrowly beat Skyline with 71 and Issaquah with 40.  Chris Freeman, Alex Leonard & Kyle Dennison again won 2 events each to power the victory.  The girls had a tougher time with 28 points, Issaquah @ 76 & Skyline @ 85.  Next up is the Kingo meet May 7th & 9th at Liberty.

4-30-08 - Michelle Vandeheyden broke the Pole Vault again, jumping 8' 9" at Issaquah in a vault only competition.  Liberty girls swept the top positions with Hannah Robbins clearing 8' 6" in 2nd and Krista Lockhart 3rd @ 8'.

4-26-08 - Michelle Vanderheyden broke the school Pole Vault record by clearing 8' 6" at the  Lake Washington Invite.  Personal bests were also recorded by Jordan Hanson in the 800, running 2:24.83, and  at Shorelne, Chris Freeman improved to 21' 5.75" in the long jump, Eric Bice lowered his 1600 best and the 4x100 team broke 45 sec.

4-24-08 - Boys go 6-0 powered by throws, jumps & sprints.  Kyle Dennison had won 2 and was 2nd in the Shot, Alex Leonard & Chris Freeman also won 2 each as Liberty beat Issaquah 82 ~ 63.  The girls had 2 winners in Rebecca Teel & Michelle Vanderheyden, losing 106 ~ 43.

4-17-08 - Kyle Dennison stepped it up at Liberty against Newport by breaking the 13 year old Discus Record held by Chris Gough by over 1' and then winning the Javelin.  Chris Freeman also was a double winner in the 200 & Long Jump.  Their performances helped clinch a narrow 74 ~ 71 victory bringing the boys to 5 ~0 for the year.   The girls had some fine performances in losing 112 ~ 28 with Michelle Vander Heyden tying the girls Pole Vault record of 8'.  Rebecca Teel won the Javelin again, with Lanea Wilson, Hannah Robins & Christina Huff also picking up individual victories.

4-5-08 - Kyle Dennison & Peter Stacy went 1-2 in the Javelin to lead the Boys to a 5th place overall finish at the Arnie Young Invite @ Renton Stadium.  The girls were led by Rebecca Teel who finished 3rd in the Jav.

4-3-08 - For the first league meet at home, the Liberty athletes decided to win it all, with both the boys & girls defeating Interlake & Mercer Island (Boys: L-102, Int-51 MI-27, Girls: L-90, MI-50, Int-45). Alex Leonard posted 4 victories to lead the Boys, Sarah Goodman & Rebecca Teel both posted 2 wins each to lead the girls.

3-29-08 - The Liberty Invite had both Rain & Snow but ended on time and saw some excellent performances despite the weather.  Full results are here.  The boys had individual winners in the 800M - Ian Smith, Javelin - Kyle Dennison & Long Jump - Chris Freeman.  On the girls side, Krista Lockhart won the Pole Vault & Rebecca Teel won the Javelin.

3-27-08 - No Rain (snow either)! - While it wasn't warm, it was mostly sunny @ Mt. Si and Chris Freeman again scored 3 victories to lead the Patriots to a 93 ~ 51 win.  Liberty had 12 1st pl. finishes, with Mitchell Byron running a Kingco (4th in state) best in the 400, while Josiah Sherwood came from behind in the 3200 for his 1st Kingco win.  The girls struggled with injuries and missing athletes, losing 114 ~ 35.  Rebecca Teel, Jordan Hanson, Sarah Goodman all had 1st place finishes.

3-20-08 - The rains waited for a bit and came in hard but the Boys team managed to hang on the a very close victory 72.5 ~ 70.5, led by Alex Leonard & Chris Freeman with 3 wins each.  Other winners were Mitchell Byron, Nick Kenney, Kyle Dennison & Eric Bice.   The girls scored 52 points to Bellevue's 93 and were led by double winners Sarah Goodman & Krista Lockhart.  Other winners were Jordan Hanson, Rebecca Teel.

3-13-08 - At least it wasn't windy!  The Jamboree was wet but some fine performances were turned by Alex Leonard - 100m, Chris Freeman - LJ, Troy Solly - 400m & Rebecca Teel - Jav.  Results on Athletic.Net

3-11-08 - Our 1st meet is this Thur. @ Skyline.  Click here for the sched. of events.  Due to transportation issues, we may start a little late.  The Track policy states all athletes must ride the bus (if provided) to meets.  If athletes wish to ride home after competition with their parents, the parent must sign the athlete out with either Coach Smith or Little.

3-8-08 -  Weds practice will be @ 12:30 due to WASL early release.  Parents who aren't receiving e-mails from Liberty Track should send a short e-mail to Coach Smith (link below) to get in the 2008 address book.

3-5-08 - The challenge continued with the running of the 400m.  Leading times were from the returning 4x400 team runners with Maddie Birdsall & Eric Bice next on the depth chart.

2-28-08 - With the end of the 1st week of practice, the plan was to have the annual Polar Bear Challenge.  With the wind blowing and rain coming sideways, the 100m was completed with the competition set to resume next week.  Leading times came from Alex Leonard & Chris Freeman, with Kelsey Werre leading the girls.  The turnout so far has been encouraging with room for more athletes.
