                    ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Liberty XC Awards Dinner is Tues, Nov. 17th @ 6pm.  E-mails will be sent with directions.  All gear must be turned @ the Dinner or with Coach Beck during school hours.

11-7-09 - Under graying skies, the trio of Josiah Sherwood, Tyler Westenbroek & Megan Chucka ran strong races in the wind @ the 2009 State Meet finals in Pasco.  Josiah (59th) improved 24 seconds from his 2008 race, with Tyler (76th) & Megan (68th) competing @ Sun Willows CC for the 1st time.

3 to State 10-29-09 - With their best team race of year, both the Boys & Girls equaled or bettered their best District showing ever.  Starting off the racing action on a cold, wet, muddy & slow Lake Sammamish course, Megan Chucka came home in 15th to qualify for State.  4 of the Girls had their best 5K of the season despite the conditions and placed 7th overall team.  In the Boys race, Josiah Sherwood led the way with an excellent 11th place finish with Soph Tyler Westenbroek following in 17th, both continuing on to State next Sat.  The boys finished 1 spot out in team race, placing 5th to equal the 2007 team.  The boys also had 4 runners run their best 5K of the year, reaching the summit for the season.

10-22-09 - Both Boys & Girls teams came through with strong performances to advance to the Sea-King meet.  Leading the Boys was Eric Bice who finished 3rd, running a seasons best 5K time in the process.  After falling in the 1st mile, Josiah moved up to 12th with Tyler, Scott & Alex close behind with all 4 recording their best 5K times of the year as well to finish 3rd overall, 2pts behind Mercer Island.

With Megan Chucka recovering from illness, sister Michaela stepped in to lead the girls with her best 5K of the season in placing 14th.  1 second back was Kaily,  then Megan C, with Maddie Birdsall & Allie Wood in the scoring for 4th place overall.  The entire girls team! recorded their best times for the year at the meet.

10-14-09 - With the rain holding off at Klahanie Park, the Liberty XC teams finished their regular seasons at the Issaquah District meet.  Both Boys & Girls placed 3rd to their 4A rivals, Iss - 26, Sky - 47 & Lib - 56 on the boys side, Sky - 31, Iss - 49 & Lib - 50 for the girls.  Tight running up front helped keep the scores close with Eric Bice finishing 2nd overall, Josiah leading a pack of 6 Patriots in 12th.  Megan Chucka was tops again in 4th with Kaily & Maddie B in 8th & 9th.  With a week until Kingco, the team's gearing up for a great showing @ Lake Samm.

10-10-09 - Led by Eric Bice's overall win, the Varsity boys placed 2nd at the Ft. Worden Invite to Lake Stevens.  Megan Chucka led the girls to a 6th place team finish by placing 13th overall.  The JV girls placed 4th in their team race and the JV boys were 3rd.  With over 30 runners competing, this was the 1st time Liberty had 4 complete teams racing in an Invite.

10-7-09 - With exciting last minute kicks in both races on a beautiful fall day, the Boys finished 2nd overall in a 5 way meet at Bellevue's Kelsey Creek home course.  Showing their #2 ranked strength, Bellevue won easily with 21, Liberty - 44, Woodinville - 100, Mt. Si - 102 & Lake Wash. - 136.  Eric Bice finished a close 2nd with Josiah Sherwood in 5th and the team is now 7-3 for the year.  The girls were led by Megan Chucka in 6th with Kaily Davies & Maddie Birdsall next in @ 18th & 19th.  Bellevue won with 37, Woodinville - 61, Mt. Si - 62, Liberty - 90 and Lake Wash - 92.

10-3-09 - After an intense week of practice during the bye week, the Patriots managed to pull down 4th place in the 3A boys team race with strong showings from Brandon Thomas, Alex Velasquez and Tyler Westenbroek in the 1st 3 races of the Varsity flights.  Tired legs made for slower than expected times but with the overall spread of only 35 seconds between the 2nd & 7th runner, consistency of the team training was rewarded with a 1 point victory over #8 3A Glacier Peak.

On the girls side, running only 5 of 7 Varsity flights and led again by Megan Chucka, the Lady Patriots still managed a 10th place overall in the team race.

9-23-09 - Eric Bice won the Varsity race by 27 sec. to lead Liberty to the overall win with 47 points, Garfield - 48, Roosevelt - 58 & Inglemoor - 74.  Josiah Sherwood led a tight pack of Patriots thru 2 miles before pulling away for 8th.  The girls were hurt by illness with 4 Varsity runners out for the race, leaving Maddie Birdsall to lead the way with a fine 7th place run.  Inglemoor won with 39, Garfield - 44, Roosevelt - 54 & Liberty - 90.  There was some confusion in the boys JV race with the course cut a bit short by the whole field but it's uncertain what the time advantage was.

9-19-09 - Led by a fine 4th place finish by Eric Bice (11th best all-time) the Liberty Boys placed 3rd overall at the Ft. Steilacoom Invite.  The girls were led by a 28th pl. finish by Megan Chucka and were 15th overall.

9-16-09 - In their 1st meet of the season, the Liberty XC teams took on the #5 ranked 4A Redmond, #7 Skyline & Sammamish yesterday.  In the Boys race, Skyline won with Liberty 3rd.  Captain Eric Bice finished 4th with Captain Josiah Sherwood in 9th.  In the Girls race, Liberty again finished 3rd with the Chucka twins leading the scoring in their 1st Varsity contest, Megan placing 4th & Michaela in 8th. Boys score - Skyline 33, Redmond 42, Liberty 56, Samm. 120.  Girls - Redmond 33, Skyline 34, Liberty 65, Samm. 114

9-14-09 - Liberty Boys garnered an honorable mention on this weeks 3A XC poll.  Currently, District 2 has 4 teams ranked in the top ten with Nathan Hale also listed with an HM.

9-10-09 - The Liberty team had their 1st outing, with great runs by the Freshman, with 5 runners in the top ten, Jared Bales, Nick Turner, Megan & Michaela Chucka and Allie Wood.  Other top ten finishes came from Tyler Westenbroek in the So race and Eric Bice in the Sr race.

Throughout the year, we have an optional group run on Sunday @ Licorice Fern (9910 171st Ave SE) @ 3pm.  The distance is typically from 4 ~ 8 miles on an out & back fairly level trail.  This run is for everyone, parents, dogs & siblings included.

The Mountain plays a big part in Liberty XC, from Base training & hill repeats at the beginning of the season to tapering & peaking at the end.  During the summer, this was brought home by a memorable encounter as retold by Ahren Stroming.  Click here for "The Legend of the Mountain"
